Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ivan Geshev, notified the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodora Genchovska, of an unregulated intelligence activity carried out, possibly for the benefit of the Russian Federation, by a person with diplomatic immunity

Under the supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office, investigative actions are carried out, jointly with the State Agency for National Security, on criminal proceedings initiated under Art. 104 of the Criminal Code. In the course of the investigation, it was established that a person enjoying diplomatic immunity was carrying out unregulated intelligence activity, consisting in the collection of information of national importance, possibly for the benefit of another country. He is accredited as "first secretary" at the Embassy of the Russian Federation.

The above is a violation of Art. 41 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

In view of this, the Prosecutor General notified the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodora Genchovska, of the data collected in the course of the investigation about a possible crime committed by a representative of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Sofia, in order to take appropriate actions.
