The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev and the Executive Vice President of European Commission Frans Timmermans discussed the strengthening of the rule of law in the EU

On February 5th 2020 the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev met the Executive Vice President of the European commission Frans Timmermans in Brussels

On February 5th 2020 the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev met the Executive Vice President of the European commission Frans Timmermans in Brussels.

Ivan Geshev expressed his gratitude to Frans Timmermans for his support and efforts, as First Vice President in the Juncker Commission, on adopting the decision for completion of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism at the end of 2019.

The Prosecutor General expressed his confidence about the final completion of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism and underlined the need to continue actions in the fight against high – level corruption and the firm determination of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria to implement them.

Ivan Geshev and Frans Timmermans discussed also the further implementation of the rule of law mechanism in all EU member states.

The Prosecutor General intends to inform the European Commission about the actions of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria regarding the combating corruption, organized crime and misuse of EU funds as well as about the current status of the processes, related to observing the rule of law.

Ivan Geshev emphasized that the Prosecutor’s Office is keen on open dialogue, cooperation and partnership with European institutions.

During the meeting Ivan Geshev acquainted Frans Timmermans with the recent actions of the Prosecutor’s Office on consolidation of the legal order in the country.
