Prosecutor General

Mr. Sotir Tsatsarov was born in Plovdiv in 1966.

He was elected as Prosecutor General on December 20 2012. On December 21 2012 under the President’s Mr. Rosen Plevneliev

decree, he was appointed as Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Mr Tsatsarov is married, with one child.

On 25th May 1880 Prince Alexander I signed Decree Nr. 226 confirming the Law on the Structure of the Courts, adopted by the National Assembly. Along with the normative establishment and strengthening the new

judiciary in our country after the Liberation, it is for the first time that the prosecutor's and the investigator's institutes were established.

Status and Functions of the Prosecutor General

The Prosecutor General shall be appointed for a period of seven years and removed by the President of the Republic upon proposal from the Supreme Judicial Council, and shall not be eligible for a second term in office (Article 129, par. 2 of the Constitution).

The Prosecutor General shall oversee the legality and provide methodological guidance to all other prosecutors (Article 126, par. 2 of the Constitution)...
